  2. species. They are medium to large toadstools
  3. with flattened caps, and many are brightly
  4. coloured. Russula emetica is a common species
  5. found in damp places under conifers. Up to 9
  6. cm/3.5 in across, the cap is scarlet, fading
  7. to cherry, and the gills are white. This
  8. toadstool tastes acrid and causes vomiting
  9. eaten raw, but some russulas are edible.
